Mohamed Mashally, “Doctor of the Poor”

Muhammad Mashali was an Egyptian doctor known for his dedication to the poor.
For over 50 years, he provided free medical care, working 12 hours a day and seeing between 30 and 50 patients daily.
People lined up outside his clinic and even looked for him on the streets.
Despite having limited resources, he never owned a car or a phone and always traveled on foot.
A wealthy man, moved by his story, gifted him $20,000, a car, and an apartment.
However, Dr. Mashali sold the car to buy medical equipment and help even more people in need.
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Cairo in 1967, and his commitment came from a promise:
“My father sacrificed everything so I could become a doctor.
I promised God that I would never take money from the poor
and that I would live my life helping people,
regardless of their culture or religion.”
He passed away in 2020, at the age of 76, leaving behind a deep legacy of compassion and service.
